SONY
INTRODUCES NEW CRT MONITORS FOR CRITICAL EVALUATION
APPLICATIONS
BVM
"Advanced" Series Designed for High-End Post Production, Telecine,
Live Production and Electronic Cinematography Monitoring
LAS
VEGAS (NAB Booth SU6406), April 17,
2005 - Sony is upgrading its line of evaluation-grade CRT
monitors with the new BVM-A series. The new monitors incorporate
several feature enhancements to provide high levels of image quality
and monitoring capabilities.
The
new monitors are designed for applications where viewing multiple
image formats with the utmost accuracy is critical, including
television production, digital cinematography, telecine, high-end
post production, live production and the creation of digital
intermediates from film.
With
these new models, the need for separate standard- and
high-definition decoders has been eliminated by the addition of a
single input card that auto-detects SD and HD serial data. A 4:4:4
RGB dual-link direct input is also available with the BKM-62HS
add-in board.
The
incorporation of IP-based communication technology brings
intelligent administration to the series through an Ethernet remote
control with setup file management and an E-service mode with SNMP
protocol for remote maintenance.
"Professional
LCD monitors certainly have their place, but for the most critical
evaluation, there is not yet a display technology that can replace
CRT," said Tom Mykietyn, general manager for display systems in Sony
Electronics' Broadcast and Production Systems Division. "CRT
continues to hold an edge over competing technologies in terms of
gray scale reproduction, standardized color gamma, black
reproduction, and contrast range."
The
Sony BVM-A evaluation-grade CRT monitors are planned to be available
in the fall, at the following suggested retail prices:
The
BKM-61D board is an analog and digital decoder that can accept NTSC,
PAL, PAL M and SECAM format composite or component inputs as either
analog or digital.
The
BKM-62HS board is a digital standard definition and high definition
decoder that can accept 4:4:4 RGB dual link, 4:2:2 YUV single link
HD signals meeting SMPTE 292M and 372M standards as well as auto
switch to serial SMPTE 259M component serial digital standard
signals.
The
BKM 68X board is a RGB or YUV analog input that allows analog SD or
HD connection.
